Lead Weld Specialist Military Vehicles

Job Purpose:  
Welding Specialist to manage and control of all welding planning and approvals across a variety of projects within the Military Vehicle sector + be fully conversant with DIN specifications to support inload.

Main Duties & Responsibilities
 
  • The prime responsibility is to have a pro-active approach to our customers welding requirements in a variety of ferrous and non-ferrous materials. The ability to implement robust procedures and determine appropriate solutions within the framework of recognised standards or specifications is essential.
  • The engineer shall undertake welding projects and/or invigilation at works or on-site to meet client requirements and be able to raise the appropriate certification.
  • The engineer shall maintain the calibration and servicing of all welding equipment in line with customer requirements ensuring machine availability at all times.
  • The engineer shall keep up to date with current and future welding techniques and put together suggestion for capital expenditure ensuring that the business maximises opportunities going forward.
  • The secondary role of the Engineer will be to support Production Engineering with creation of bill of materials, generation of shop floor planning and continuous improvement.
 
Skills:
  • Evidence to demonstrate they can undertake the stated responsibilities.
  • An academic or vocational qualification in welding or a welding related subject. Alternatively, practical welding experience is essential if no vocational qualification is provided. Also a minimum of HNC in Engineering.
  • An in depth knowledge of welding standards, welding processes, welding techniques and their requirements.
  • Experience and/or a qualification in NDT and Mechanical Testing (codes and methods), Product Manufacturing, Materials, Metallurgy, Quality Assurance (Welded Products) and Inspection Codes.
  • Able to conduct and chair internal and external audits in line with weld approval requirements.
  • Excellent management, communication skills, both written and oral, with an ability to converse at all levels with clients, consultants, assessors, management and staff.
  • Be a self-motivated individual with a customer and solution-oriented personality and have unquestionable and precise work ethics.
  • Experience with Lean priciplies and able to assist and conduct improvement events when required.
  • Be proficient in all Microsoft office packages.
